#15: hello and welcome to brooklyn

for Victor Poison-Tete, and, in memory of Cary Gevanter

Cary Gevanter Brooklyn

gazing into hopeless mirrors
pancho villa swears
flustered that he can't find scissors
pulling out stray nasal hairs

two doors down a lunatic
passed out on the stairs
a businessman who wears a mask
trudges by without a care

hello and welcome to brooklyn

in the pit of van brunt station
folks diseased and deeply troubled
hosed by situations

boobs and retards passing air
pissing pants and underwear
countless ranks of destitute
sleeping on the street

filthy and quixotic billboard
dangles from a culvert creaking

hello and welcome to brooklyn

dim bulb workers lurching in
commuter trains that disappear
leaving scattered subway rats

rivulets of bacon grease
waste by products on the griddle
in a mouse and cock-a-roach infested basement swilling beer

never mind the psychopathic
flailing in a sea of fear
endless threats to life and limb
suffocating in its way this
home to pimps and heart disorders

hello and welcome to brooklyn

bloods wit no attention span
looking crazed and on the ropes
the gallivanting comatose
done wit messing
coalescing
basket cases waves and waves
trudging up from subway tunnels
in a toothless mindless haze

hello and welcome to brooklyn
