remembering the fears that rocked
and shook inside his gut
he hoarsely mumbled at the cupboard
seeing nothing on the shelf
coughing up a hunger pang
fumbling through his pocket

selfish and uptight bush one screwing people over
closing down social programs
hordes of homeless without recourse
peeing in the street

age of callous half hearted indifference

humanity had vanished
banished from their lexicon
corporate shysters jockeying for titles and positions
in flurries of worry they scurried about
more and more shiftless
prune faced republicans
protected by a bitchslap book of regulations

hollow and greedy
the starched right radical
trying to exploit inanely
harvesting the couch potato
plopped in every satellite dish
draconian distorted views
prepossessed by jingoism
oh say can you see via cable tv

age of callous half hearted indifference
