can't escape distasteful tangles
keening over tree and lamppost
leaping over balustrades
reaching underneath my skin

mercilessly day and night
captains shrieking out
"my tight-lipped friend we have to know!
tell us who and what you are!"

shaken i retire to the basements of my brain
holding up essentially
an old and scratchy echoplex¹
its filters open and deflect
a dial points to
this-is-crazy back-up-and-delay

disinclined to fathom
what is deep within my soul
what's the use of digging
and dredging up who knows what?

lurking in the purply chambers underneath
these monsters
i have no defense against
moving through a shadow world
armor plated parasites
icky slugs and geezer muffins
stealthy and concealed
they whomp on every barrier
busting down my inner shield
